Nightmares are scary for children. They are a terrible thing that many children have to have at least a few times in their life. The nightmares can seem so real and so terrifying. The most important thing is not to dismiss the dream. It is not just a simple thing. It can bring on some terrible message that the child may have to deal with in their life. There may be some stress of worries in the child's everyday life.
The parent's job is to reassure the child that they are fine and safe. They are there to comfort the child and make sure they feel secure. Talk over the nightmare with your child. You will want to make the child feel like you are interested in their dream. Let them know that you are there to help them and that everything is fine.
Ask questions to your child and find out what is going on in their daily life. Find out if there is something that you are missing and they are having trouble with someone or something. Encourage your child and tell them that they have a great imagination and their creativity is amazing. Give them back their confidence and let them know that they are brave and strong.
You do not have to find a reason for every dream that your child has. You do not need to have a dream expert on hand. You can have your child make good from their dreams. Have them make a picture or paint a picture that will let them bring out their creativity in an artistic method.
You can encourage your children to have fantasies and dream as much as they want to. They should be able to play and live through their dreams. They should not be afraid to go to sleep because they do not wan to have a bad dream. You can explore the nightmares that your child has been having together. Do not get excited or panic. This is a very normal expression for a child to go through.
Allow your child to be creative through their artistic expressions. They can bring their dreams alive through their painting and this is a good way to have fun. You can also have them draw out their nightmares if you think that it would help. Maybe they can see on paper that their nightmares are not going to hurt them and that they having nothing to fear.
