Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea
Sleep apnea is a medical condition, which makes it difficult to sleep for some, as they are not breathing correctly, while for others, it can mean listening to snoring for quite a long time. Sleep apnea is most commonly also called obstructive sleep apnea, which is the condition where you, as the person sleeping, stopping breathing. As you stop breathing, continually you are not resting correctly, and this reduces the oxygen in the blood while you are sleeping. The obstructive sleep apnea is often times caused by too much tissue in the airway, in your throat, in your nose or it could be caused by tonsils that are enlarged, or a tongue-relaxing problem. Additionally, you could have a jaw problem that is not allowing you to breath properly while you are sleeping. These conditions could be from birth, or as a result of another disease, or as a result of an accident. If you find that you or someone you know is suffering from sleep apnea, there are many avenues of treatment and support.
How do you know if you are suffering from sleep apnea? If someone watches you sleep, and they tell you that you are continually not breathing while you are sleeping, that is the first indication. Other signs include that you are excessively tired during the day light hours. If you find that you wake yourself up, and feel as if you are catching your breath often during the night, this can be an additional sign of sleep apnea. Many sleepers will wake their selves if they are snoring heavily, but if you are not breathing, this can also result in waking yourself up, for no apparent reason.
Sleep apnea is often times associated with many other signs, and symptoms which could be a combination of many of the following: snoring, loud snoring, always feeling tired, you have a dry mouth when you wake up, you are irritable upon waking, you are overweight, you have high blood pressure, if you are finding it difficult to concentrate, if you suffer from heartburn often, and if you have insomnia, or you find that you have a reduced libido (meaning you really don't want to have a physical relationship with your partner) or you suffer from depression, and others are remarking about changes in your personality. These are all combined signs of sleep apnea, and the problems you could face if you are not taking this medical condition seriously.
